Our restaurants
At your home in Kampus Palace, there are four businesses. The cool courtyard of the derm is a nice setting during the spring and summer. In the beautiful renovated building from first republic, you can enjoy a healthy raw cake in Black Kale, have a beer and a hookah at the Czech Hookah Club or something to eat at the Guest Restaurant. You can’t make a mistake with anything here.
Art
Bustling with life during the day, often empty in the evenings and at weekends. The city centre is going through some fundamental changes. Part of its life was first sucked into the clubland of Stodolní Street, and the centre is beginning to wake up nowadays, including of arts, both of streets art and in various galleries.
Culture
The local culture took its time emerging in its full beauty from the ashes of the local coal. Nowadays, cultural events massively break through the cityś outer idustrial shell. Historic industrial monuments are being converted so they can host concerts and performances, and the streets regularly burst into life in the hands of cultural enthusiasts who want to make their city truly special.
Food
A long time ago, when there was no Czech state and we belonged to the Austrian Empire, Ostrava was known as „Schnaps Stadt“ – the city of booze. Hundreds of taverns and pubs are located all around the city. Ostrava parties smell of absinte and czech spirits such as fernet – hangover guaranteed! And another phenomenon has cafes, bistros and restaurants. They have sprung up like mushrooms after the rain (as we say in Czech) during the last few years. Baristas and chefs compete in their art and inventiveness, and the ghosts are getting used to being pampered.
Student life
If you ask an old Ostrava bard about the university district in Ostrava, they will answer VŠB Campus in Poruba. However, a younger sister from the University of Ostrava in the city center has long been able to do many things for students. Most of their faculties are situated in the city center nearly Kampus Palace. Moreover, before you know it, a new university campus will be built in Černá louka and Smetana Square will be transformed into a little student city.
University
Around 10,000 students study at OU every year thanks to the unique composition of the faculties, it offers a varied and wide range of study programs. Or on VŠB become a afterexpert in technical, scientific or economic fields. In both cases, our universities are not only important educational institutions, but also significant actors in the field of social and cultural events. By no means do you reach out in Ostrava.
